Dr. Borut Fonda dipl. kond. tren., mag. kin.
Biomechanic, researcher and innovator in the world of cycling and sports.
A leading cycling biomechanist with international experience, author of award-winning innovations and professional publications, I specialize in optimizing cycling posture, movement efficiency, and individually tailored solutions for top athletes.
Beginnings in cycling
I am a former Olympic mountain biker in the cross-country discipline. After finishing my competitive career, I dedicated myself to the fitness preparation of cyclists and optimizing the position on the bike.
I still stay active today – I like to cycle, run, climb and train young mountain bikers in KK Završnica.
Knowledge and diplomas
I continued my PhD studies at the University of Birmingham (UK), where I focused on biomechanics, motor control and cycling ergonomics. My goal remains the same as then: to develop new guidelines for optimizing biomechanics and posture based on the individual characteristics of each athlete.
Biomehanics
I am the author of an award-winning patent for a movable seatpost and numerous scientific and professional publications in the fields of motor control, biomechanics and cycling ergonomics.
I am considered one of the leading cycling biomechanics in the world, with many years of experience working with the best professional teams and individuals in road and mountain cycling.
Known all over the world
My innovations and approaches to optimizing posture and equipment are used by many top cyclists around the world.
Špela Bokal, mag. kin.
mag. Aplikativne koneziologije
I graduated and received my master’s degree in Applied Kinesiology from the University of Primorska, where I focused primarily on the physiology of endurance sports and also intensively studied the biomechanics of running.
I am also a qualified international mountain guide (UIMLA).
Biomehanska analiza teka
After completing my master’s degree, I focused primarily on physiological testing and participating in research and measurements with cyclists.
Today, I work in the field of biomechanical analysis of running, individual trail running coaching, and guiding – I lead hiking tours and multi-day trail running trips, camps, and trips.
Sem strastna ljubiteljica gorskih športov
I am a passionate fan of mountain sports – especially trail running, mountaineering and ski touring, but I am also fascinated by climbing, cycling and other endurance challenges.
I regularly participate in trail running competitions, where I have also stood on the podium several times, but the most joy I still get is from simply moving in nature and exploring the mountain world.

Bike fitting
I am a graduate kinesiologist with experience and expertise in bike fitting and physiological testing. After completing my studies at the Faculty of Sport in Ljubljana, I further expanded my knowledge through direct mentorship under Dr. Borut Fonda.
Fakulteta za šport
I graduated from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Sport, specializing in kinesiology, where I focused on endurance sports. My work is primarily centred on optimizing endurance training for runners and cyclists, as well as bike position optimization.
Additional knowledge in cycling biomechanics was gained through my work at FOSP.
Individualno trenerstvo
After completing my studies, I worked in a cycling shop, where I developed broad practical knowledge about bicycles and the needs of different types of cyclists.
Today, I work professionally in individual coaching for running and cycling, physiological testing,
Vzdržljivostni športi me spremljajo že od mladih let.
Endurance sports have been a part of my life since a young age. As a teenager, I started training and competing in mountain biking (cross-country – XCO and marathon – XCM), and later also became actively involved in running across various distances.
Training and competition represent both a challenge and an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. I regularly participate in cycling and running events, in recent years mainly focusing on longer and ultra-distance competitions.
